Atom transfer radical polymerization of tert-butyl acrylate and its hydrolysis product as dispersant for the preparation of ZrO2 suspension

Abstract:P(t-BA)has been synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization. Subsequently, the electrokinetic characteristics of ZrO2 in the presence of the hydrolysis product of P(t-BA) have been studied by GPC, FTIR, Zeta and TEM. The results show that P(t-BA)has a molecular weight distribution of 1.38 and the hydrolysis product has both carbonyl group and ester group. When the hydrolysate is 0.2%similar to0.3% of ZrO2 and pH=8similar to11, stable suspension can be produced.
