Emerging amine-assisted electrolytes for rechargeable magnesium metal batteries: Current understanding and future direction

Hits:

  • Key Words:BOROHYDRIDE

  • Abstract:Efficient magnesium (Mg)-ion electrolytes using commercially-available simple Mg salts hold the key in developing practical rechargeable Mg-metal batteries. However, they usually encounter challenges of incompatibility with Mg-metal anodes and insufficient ionic conductivity. Precisely tailoring Mg2+ solvation sheath structures via amine ingredients have emerged as a frontier in this realm. In this minireview, recent advances on both liquid and solid Mg2+ electrolytes containing functional amine additives have been systematically summarized. Current molecular-level mechanistic understandings, especially on solvation sheath reconstruction, solid electrolyte interphases (SEIs) formation, electrostatic shielding and Mg2+ migration pathway construction, have been discussed in detail. Finally, the unanswered open questions and potential strategies focusing on these amine-assisted electrolytes are presented.
