The effect of dynamic vulcanization on the processing rheologic behaviour of TPU/EVM blends

Hits:

  • Key Words:

  • Abstract:Blend of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)/ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVM) was dynamically vulcanized by dicumyl peroxide (DCP) in Haake rheometer. The apparent viscosity, nonnewtonianism and die swell ratio of various ratios of dynamical vulcanizates of TPU/EVM increased and the extrudates became rougher compared with unvulcanizated blends; The viscosity of TPU/EVM=75/25 vulcanizate increased most and its nonnewtonianism increases as the increase of shear rate which appeared against the corresponding unvlucanizate. It is found that DCP can cure TPU in a certain degree and still keep its thermoplastic property.
