Abstract:At present, the rapid development of science and technology is desperate for developing more desirable multifunctional materials. Metal nanocrystals (MNCs) possess well-defined morphology, precise electronic structure and plasmonic effect. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) feature intrinsic porosity and flexible functionalization. Both the MNC and MOF materials have been shining brightly in their respective fields. When an inorganic MNC meet MOF particle, what kind of spark will it produce? In fact, the integration of MNC and MOF, especially photoactive MOFs, creates more fascinating platforms for extensive fields. To date, relatively few review articles have comprehensively summarized their progress. Further, there was no systematic establishment of the relationship between MNC-MOF structures and their properties. This review overviews the research advances in different assembly technologies of multitudinous MNC-MOF structures. Additionally, the different applications including heterogeneous catalysis, plasmonic sensor techniques and chemo-photothermal cancer therapy are outlined. Finally, the challenges and perspectives in the development of new MNC-MOF structures for emerging applications in future are highlighted.
