Growth mechanism of carbon fibers catalyzed by SiC nanoparticles

Hits:

Abstract:The carbon nanofibers (CNFs) were obtained by chemical vapor deposited method in a tubular furnace, using SiC nanoparticles prepared by hydrogen arc plasma method as catalyst and acetylene as carbon source. The SiC nanoparticles and CNFs were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The result shows that the SiC nanoparticles were FCCβ-SiC(3C-SiC) crystal; the CNFs were symmetrically grown with the catalyst particles as the center; the diameter of the CNFs were roughly similar to the diameter of the SiC nanoparticles; the CNFs were helical when the catalyst particles were single crystal, and were lineary when the catalyst particles were polycrystal.
