Abstract:The fatigue law of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) foam has investigated through its fatigue characteristics of reciprocating compression, to construct its fatigue life prediction model. EVA foam samples are prepared by supercritical fluid foaming method. The MTS-831 material testing machine is used to perform a reciprocating compression fatigue test with a constant load of 100 000 cycles. The constructed fatigue life prediction model is based on the relationship between the average modulus and the strain. The parameters of the model are determined by the results of reciprocating compression testing. This model can predict the fatigue results after 100 000 cycles of reciprocating compression with the results of 1000th cycle. The results suggest that the plastic deformation increases with the increase of cycles, the average modulus increases with the increase of gel content, and the relationship between stress and strain is nonlinear. Error analysis and model verification confirms that the predicted value is consistent with the experimental results, and the model predicted results are accurate and credible.
