Abstract:In this work, the anodized coating was firstly prepared at low voltage on AZ31B Mg alloy, and followed by one-step hydrothermal treatment to produce stearic acid modified CeO2 coating with superhydrophobic performance. The anodized coating prepared at low voltage combined well with the substrate without obvious micropores and microcracks. The outer stearic acid modified CeO2 coating with spherical morphology covered the inner anodized coating compactly. The composite coating showed excellent superhydrophobicity (CA=164.7o) and self-cleaning performance. Meanwhile, the corrosion resistance of the substrate coated with the composite coating had been significantly improved. When the composite coating is scratched, the Ce ions might gradually release from the coating and convert into newly formed Ce-based compounds to prevent the further corrosion, exhibiting a self-healing behavior.(c) 2023 Elsevier B.V.
