Abstract:Uniform LaPO4:Eu micrometer-sized hollow spheres were synthesized through a simple solution-based hydrothermal method followed by a subsequent calcination process without using any surfactant, catalyst, or template. The phase composition and the microstructure of as-prepared products were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FT-IR) and photoluminescence spectroscope (PL). FE-SEM characterization showed that mono-disperse micrometer-sized hollow spheres with an average diameter of 3 mu m were obtained. The formation mechanism for LaPO4: Eu micrometer-sized hollow sphere was proposed based on the reaction results. Studies on photoluminescence indicated that the micrometer-sized hollow spheres had a stronger orange-red emission corresponding to D-5(0)-> F-7(1) transition than that of the corresponding nanorods.
