Synthesis of spherical MTX/LDHs nanohybrids by the calcination-reconstruction method

  • Abstract:Spherical microspheres of methotrexate intercalated layered double hydroxides (MTX/LDHs) have been synthesized by the calcination-reconstruction method and using the carbon spheres as template. Here, the effect of carbon spheres' size on the morphology, drug-loading capacity and controlled-release property of the final product-MTX/LDHs nanohybrids are examined in details. It has been found out that the morphology of MTX/LDHs nanohybrids synthesized without template is irregular and aggregated seriously, while the MTX/LDHs nanohybrids prepared with the template of carbon spheres are spherical and monodispersed. With increasing in the size of carbon spheres, the particle size of MTX/LDHs is increasing gradually, and the morphology changes from irregular to the regular one. A set of characterization technologies including Zeta potentials, sustained-release performance and anticancer effect will be carried out to investigate the physical and chemical properties, and it's indicated that spherical MTX/LDHs have excellent controlled-release property and good anticancer effect. Therefore, this work provides a promising approach for the design and synthesis of spherical MTX/LDHs nanohybrids, which can be potentially applied in drug delivery devices.
