Facile synthesis of ruthenium (II) zinc composite metal organic frameworks for electrochemiluminescence biosensors of tetracycline detection in marine environment

  • Abstract:In this study, the novel 3D zinc metal organic framework (Zn-MOF) nanoparticles were synthesized by simple blending of 1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-dicarboxylic acid (PDA) with zinc salt at room temperature. Then, using the synthesized Zn-MOF as a carrier, Ru(bpy)32 + obtained by ligand exchange was accessed into the MOF channels. Ru@Zn-PDA, a MOF-based ECL material with excellent ECL performance with conductive properties was successfully constructed. In addition, Ru@Zn-PDA is a uniformly sized hydrangea-like structure composed of rodlike crystal domains. This hydrophobic porous structure enriches the lipophilic tripropylamine (TPrA) co-reactants in the channel and provides a conductive environment to facilitate the ECL reaction between Ru (bpy)33+ and TPrA.-within a confined environment, which can lead to the signaling enhancement of ECL. Considering the excellent ECL performance of Ru@Zn-PDA, an ultrasensitive ECL biosensor was constructed for tetracycline (TC) detection using Ru@Zn-PDA as the ECL luminescent agent and TPrA as the co-reactant. The constructed ECL biosensor has a linear range from 1 pg/mL to 100 pg/mL with detection limits as low as 0.33 pg/ mL. In summary, the novel composite Ru@Zn-PDA provides an effective and feasible strategy to improve the performance of ECL and broaden the application range of conductive MOF.
